Overview:
This tour will take you to one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland: the geological and historical wonder of Þingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Spring and the most active Strokkur, Gullfoss the Golden Waterfall, queen of all Icelandic waterfalls.
Þingvellir National Park: the site of the old parliament since the year 930 and the tectonic boundary separating the North American and the Eurasian plates and see the Mid-Atlantic Ridge risen above sea level. Þingvellir is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Geysir Hot Spring: Geysir was the first geyser described in a printed source and the first known to modern Europeans. The English word geyser (a periodically spouting hot spring) derives from this Icelandic word Geysir. The name Geysir itself is derived from the Icelandic verb geisa, “to gush”, the verb from Old Norse. Geysir lies in the Haukadalur valley, which is also the home to Strokkur geyser about 50 metres south. Geysir has remained dormant, but Strokkur is very active spouting 24 hours a day, seven days a week and never takes a summer break. Here you are going to witness Strokkur spout.
Gullfoss the Golden Waterfall: Gullfoss is in the river Hvítá (White River), which has its origin in the glacier Langjökull about 40km north of Gullfoss. Glacial water is brownish, since it carries lots of sediments that the glacial ice has carved off the earth. Gullfoss is called the “Golden Falls”, since on a sunny day the water plunging down the three-step staircase and then tumbling in two steps down into the 32 m deep crevice looks truly golden. You can walk to the edge of this beautiful, majestic and romantic waterfall in the summer time.
